There has been some media coverage recently about the potential for people to catch salmonella from their reptiles, specifically tying 15 cases to bearded dragons. As the community of reptile keepers are always working to mitigate a ban or unreasonable law of some sort we need to ensure we get out in front of dramatized situations with facts. Here we discuss in more detail what salmonella bacteria is, what it does, how it's spread, and some occurrence statistics that put the story on a bit more level footing. Please keep in mind that I'm not a biologist and am putting forth layman's research so feel free to correct any misuse of terms you may find from an off-the-cuff unscripted recording but I'm confident that the basic information will be helpful to a lot of folks.
