Tips for Barrier Aggression and Frustration for Dog Trainers

Tips for Barrier Aggression and Frustration for Dog Trainers

Barrier aggression or frustration can occur in many situations, such as when the dog is behind a fence, in a crate or car, being restrained on a leash or held, but also in situations where the dog’s freedom of movement is reduced, for example being crowded by dogs at a park or even being petted while another dog or person approaches.

In this video I give tips for trainers working on these cases on using counter conditioning and desensitization to train dogs to have a positive emotional response to the barrier or restraint as well as teach them a specific behavior to do in these situations that becomes stronger and more reliable than their previous behaviors. These techniques will help reduce the undue stress in both the dogs as well as their guardians lives.
