In Episode 4 of our Puppy Vlog, trainer Julia works with 3-month-old new student Duke (a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy) on the very handy Place command!
"Place" command teaches puppies to relax somewhere on their own. This is what we want puppies to target when they want to relax at home.
In the beginning, our goal is to create a positive association with the Place cot, aka LOTS of food work and rewards! The goal is for them to only get off once your release them.
This really is a patience exercise and a permission-asking exercise. It takes TIME to build up longer durations your pup can be on Place for, as well as the distance as to how far you can be away from them while they're on it. Take your time and build both of these up slowly!
